On Saturday, January 19th, 2008: Friends Across the Border did a vision-screening
clinic at Martha’s Village & Kitchen, in Indio, CA. Members left the
Hemet staging area at 6:00am and Yucaipa at 6:40am. By 7:45 am we had arrived
at the clinic site and began to set up. At 8:15am the clinic started and by 2:00pm
the last patient of the day was leaving with their recycled eyeglasses.

Listed below is a synopsis of the day’s clinical findings:
Ø 202 people were seen for the day.
Ø Of the 202, 6 needed their prescription made, 10 needed
no prescription and the balance received recycled eyeglasses.
Ø One patient needs referral for surgical treatment
of an old retinal detachment.
Ø Two patients need follow up for glaucoma.
Ø Eight patients need surgical treatment for pterygium’s.
With the equipment packed we were off to the Yucaipa staging area, arriving at
3:30pm. A few of us had some refreshments at the local Trejo’s Restaurant
and headed home shortly thereafter.
It was a nice day for all involved and demonstrated the true spirit of Lionism
for those directly and or indirectly involved in making the program a success.
