Thermal, CA

On Saturday, April 5th, 2008: Friends Across the Border did a vision-screening
clinic, in conjunction with the Flying Doc’s at the health care faire in Thermal, CA.
We departed our staging areas in Hemet @ 5:15 am, Yucaipa @ 6:00 am and Banning @ 6:30 am. By 7:30 am we had arrived at the clinic site and began to set up the equipment and eyeglasses. The clinic started at 8:00 am and the last patient left with their recycled eyeglasses at 2:30 pm.
Listed below is a synopsis of the day’s clinical findings:

289 people were seen for the clinic.
Ø
Of the 289, 20 needed no prescription, 13 need to be made at the
optical laboratory and the balance received recycled eyeglasses.
Ø
1- needs surgical excision of a sebaceous cyst
Ø
3- need surgical excision of a pterygium on at least one eye.
Ø 1-needs surgical treatment of a
secondary cataract and consultation for secondary IOL’s.
By 3:00 pm the equipment and eyeglasses were repacked and we headed for the Round Table Pizza Parlor in Cathedral City
for some suds and food. By 4:30 pm with our belly’s full and thirst quenched
we headed for our staging area in Banning. We left Banning @ 5:30 pm and arrived
in Yucaipa at 6:00 pm. With the balance of the equipment off loaded, the rest
of the group left for the Hemet staging area.
