On Saturday, June 14th, 2008:
Friends Across the Border did a vision-screening clinic with the Tecate Lions Club of Tecate, Mexico. We departed our staging area in Yucaipa at 5:00am, Hemet at 5:45am and Menifee at 6:30am. At 8:10 am we were pulling into our breakfast stop at Barrett’s Junction. With our belly’s full, we departed for the border at 9:05am.
By 10:00am the clinic had started.
Listed below is a synopsis
of the day ‘s clinical findings:

178 people were seen for the day

Of
the 178, 6 needed no prescription, 8 need their prescription made at the optical lab and the balance received recycled eyeglasses.

patients need cataract surgery on at least one eye.

2
patients need a penetrating keratoplasty on one eye.

2
patients need surgical excision of their pterygium on at least one eye.

1 patient needs treatment for glaucoma
After the clinic finished at 2:00pm,
we sat down to a nice meal and socialization with some the Tecate Lions who worked the clinic.
With salutations said and a Happy Birthday wish to Debbie Capen, we departed for the states.
We arrived in line at the border at
3:30pm and finally crossed at 4:30pm. By 5:00pm we arrived at our usual pit stop
in Rancho San Diego. A half our later we were on our way to Menifee, arriving
at 7:00pm. By 7:30pm we were in Hemet and in Yucaipa at 8:30pm.
