On Saturday, June 28, 2008: Friends Across the Border did a vision-screening
clinic at Martha’s Village & Kitchen in Indio, CA. We departed our
Hemet staging area at 6:00 am and Yucaipa at 6:30am. By 7:45am we had arrived
at the clinic site. The clinic started at 8:40 am and the last patient
of the day was leaving with their recycled eyeglasses at 2:10pm.
Listed below is a synopsis
of the day’s clinical findings:

237 people were seen for the day.

Of the 237, 9 needed no prescription, 20 needed their prescription made at the optical lab and
the balance received recycled eyeglasses.

1 patient needs treatment for neo-vascular glaucoma secondary to diabetes mellitus
-
2 people need treatment for glaucoma
-
2 people need cataract surgery on at least one eye.
-
1 person needs laser treatment for a secondary cataract.
-
1 person needs to be fit with HGP contact lenses for keratoconus

1 person needs excision of a pterygium
After the equipment and glasses were
repacked we headed for the local Pizza Hut for some suds, food and rest. By 4:30
pm we were back on the road and arriving in Yucaipa at 5:30pm and Hemet at 6:15pm. It
was a nice day to demonstrate the true spirit of Lionism and was enjoyed by all involved in the clinic.
