On Saturday, June 28, 2008: Friends Across the Border did a vision-screening clinic at Martha’s Village & Kitchen in Indio, CA.  We departed our Hemet staging area at 6:00 am and Yucaipa at 6:30am.  By 7:45am we had arrived at the clinic site.    The clinic started at 8:40 am and the last patient of the day was leaving with their recycled eyeglasses at 2:10pm.

Listed below is a synopsis of the day’s clinical findings:

  • Of the 237, 9 needed no prescription, 20 needed their prescription made at the optical lab and the balance received recycled eyeglasses.
  • 1 patient needs treatment for neo-vascular glaucoma secondary to diabetes mellitus
  • 2 people need treatment for glaucoma

After the equipment and glasses were repacked we headed for the local Pizza Hut for some suds, food and rest.  By 4:30 pm we were back on the road and arriving in Yucaipa at 5:30pm and Hemet at 6:15pm.  It was a nice day to demonstrate the true spirit of Lionism and was enjoyed by all involved in the clinic.
