Martha’s
Village & Kitchen
On Saturday, December 27th, 2008:
Friends Across the Border did a vision-screening clinic at Martha’s Village & Kitchen in Indio, CA. We left our Hemet staging area at 5:45am and Yucaipa at 6:30am. We
arrived at the clinic site at 7:45am and quickly began the process of setting up for the days’ clinic.
The last patient of the day was leaving with
their recycled eyeglasses at 3:30pm.
Listed below is a synopsis of the day’s
clinical findings:
Ø
307 patients were seen for the day.
Ø
Of the 307, 16 needed no prescription, 11 need their prescription made at the optical lab and 280 received recycled
eyeglasses.
Ø
1 patient needs excision of a pterygium on both eyes.
Ø
1 patient needs laser treatment for diabetic maculopathy.
Ø
4 patients need treatment for glaucoma.
Ø
2 patients need surgical treatment for cataracts on at least one eye.
After packing the eyeglasses/equipment and saying our good byes to the staff
we departed to a local Pizza Hut for some food and refreshments. After being
at great meal and conversation, we departed for our Yucaipa staging area, arriving at 6:45pm and Hemet about a half hour later.
It was a nice clinic that demonstrated the
