Wilderness Camp for Deaf Children is a nonprofit public benefit 501 (c)3 corporation founded in 1980. A camp
in the northern part of the state is leased while Camp Teresita Pines near Wrightwood in Southern California is owned by Wilderness
Camp and operated by a Foundation of fellow Lions.
The camps are staffed by dedicated people highly proficient in sign language and camping skills. The children
are taught about nature, outdoor living skills and recreation.
Through these activities, the camp experience becomes a place to assist the camper build self esteem and confidence.
Leader-ship development is also offered to experienced campers who volunteer as Counselors in Training.
FOR DEAF CHILDREN IS
Thanks to the generosity of Lions in California and Nevada and others, there is no charge for any Deaf or
hard of hearing child who otherwise qualifies for camp. The fee is covered by donations from clubs and individuals who see
the importance of offering a unique experience to this special group.
